Covid-19 (Coronavirus) service update: 7th May, 2021

On 29th April, the Taoiseach announced new public health measures, “The Path Ahead”, to continue the process of easing the very difficult restrictions on our lives.

Clare County Council is continuing to provide services in line with the current Covid-19 Government restrictions to keep us all safe. In this regard Council staff are minimising contact in the way they are working. 

If you need to access Council services at this time, please do so by phone, email, post or online. An appointments-based service will be in operation where necessary for delivery of essential services. In order to minimise contacts, support reduced public mobility and allow us to properly manage contact points, appointments must be arranged in advance by phoning or emailing.

The main changes to Clare County Council services as a result of the new measures are as follows and are subject to the situation remaining stable:

From 4th May, all construction recommenced. This includes the roads works programmes, capital projects, maintenance and upkeep of parks and open spaces. All outdoor workers have returned to work on site.

From 10th May, galleries, museums, libraries and other cultural attractions will reopen.

  • Clare County Library branches, including Local Studies, will re-open on 10th May on a reduced capacity for browsing only. Limited services will be provided in this phase including reduced numbers accessing libraries for a limited time. 
    Exceptions are: Kildysart Library, which will continue with a click and collect service to neighbouring branches from 10th May and once per week outside the library via the library delivery van; Lisdoonvarna Library will re-open on Thursday, 20th May.

  • The County Museum is currently undergoing renovation works. It is planned to re-open in August following completion of construction works.
  • Studio Spaces at Tulla Stables and EASI Studios will re-open from 10th May.
  • Gallery spaces at Culturlann Sweeney and Scariff Library will re-open from 24th May.
  • Vandeleur Walled Gardens with Woodland Bistro will be fully re-opened to the public and will continue to operate on “Grab & Go” basis with outdoor seating provided from 7th June. Plant sales will be operating as normal.
  • Cliffs of Moher (COM) is open since 26th April with reduced admission, reduced services, takeaway dining and pre-booking only.
    On 17th May, the COM will open from 9am-7pm with full admission, takeaway dining, and pre-booking only.

  • Loophead Lighthouse visitor attraction is currently undergoing renovation works. 
  • With the resumption of inter-county travel from 10th May, increased activity is expected at our many beaches and outdoor amenities. Arrangements have been put in place to open all Council public toilets and plans are being put in place for maintenance and management at all amenity sites over the summer months.

From 7th June, subject to maintaining progress on the virus, gyms, swimming pools and leisure centres will reopen. This includes the pool and gym at Active Ennis.
